Streamer Saturday Recap and Images
PVFF’s Winter fly tying event was a tremendous success with 26 members and guests attending. This was the second Winter fly tying event, the first (a Cork Popper class), being held in January 2017. As last year, PVFF provided all materials and each tier had the opportunity to tie a number of different streamer pattern variations based on the Woolly Bugger, Clouser Deep Minnow, Rabbit Strip Leach and Lefty’s Deceiver or create their own variation of one or more of these classic streamer patterns. Considering the great turnout, probably more than 140+ streamer flies were tied. Several ideas are already being discussed regarding what to do next January, perhaps tying “foamy flies”?
You might recall the cork popper workshop that PVFF held last January. That event was well received by all who attended, so we are planning a similar fly tying event on January 20, 2018. If you can’t go fishing, but want to get out of the house on a cold winter day for a day of fly tying with other club members, plan on attending our Streamer Saturday. Attendees will have the opportunity to tie either their favorite streamer fly pattern or design their own ‘dressed up’ standard streamer pattern. As an example, there are literally a hundred variations of tying and enhancing the effectiveness of a ‘woolly bugger’.
This session is open to tiers of all levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). As in any fly tying ‘circle,’ participants at Streamer Saturday will have the opportunity to share experiences, thoughts and strategies which make streamer fishing one of the more successful approaches to catching fish of all species with a fly.
The event will be held in room 207 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 703 West Patrick Street, Frederick, starting at 10 AM until 3:30 PM. An assortment of tying materials and lunch will be provided. Basic tying equipment will be available for participants who are just learning to tie flies, along with instruction for beginners. Register below to enroll for Streamer Saturday; the class will be limited to the first 20 persons who sign up.
