It’s hard to believe that we have only been up and running for a few short months with all that has been accomplished. Below is an excerpt taken from the Project Healing Waters leadership as they visited with the Frederick Chapter at our last Meeting.
It’s All Adding Up for the Frederick, MD Project Healing Waters Program
By Larry Braswell
“I have been participating in the program for 3 months and noticed your volunteers’ passion for sharing their knowledge of the sport is overwhelming. Words won’t do it to describe the appreciation and excitement we feel, can’t wait to get on the water. Thank you.” – SFC Paul Kelly USA (Retired)
“Julie Keene the DRC for the National Capitol Region and I visited the Frederick, MD Program on Tuesday, January 22nd, where that Program added two new veteran participants, Ray and Rick to their ranks bringing the program to 8 participants. The Frederick Program is the newest in the region and has only met 3 times up to this evening, so this was welcome news to Dave Wooster the Program Lead and the rest of the members.”
“Prior to the start of the Meeting all members stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance before watching an Orvis video on Basic Fly Fishing. After a short break Colin Flournoy led all members in a tying session where they tied the San Juan Worm.”
In another update, we have been going to the Fort Detrick VA every other Friday for about 2 hours to demonstrate fly tying and talk with the veterans about the Program. If you’d like to help at one of these sessions we are always looking for volunteers.
